Since time immemorial the human being has the desire to understand the world he lives in, his own existence and the powers behind both.

Over millennia, there is one concept which resurfaces again and again.

Almost in every culture, in every time and every corner of the world people have come to a similar answer; we can even include most modern science.

We can give this understanding the title: Five Element theory – albeit is “not theory…but very real and practical knowledge.

The words the cultures have given it vary, but the universality of understanding is shared. The most common way is to talk about these five energy-fields (strata of energy of different character and vibration) as: Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Space.

Or if one wants to take it into the realm of Gods (i.e. in India) we talk about the realms of Bhumi, Varuna, Agni, Vayu and Shiva.

Entering modern science we talk about: gravity, electromagnetism; weak and strong nuclear forces – and the combined “Strong force” (which we don’t really yet know what it is).

Whatever culture and language we choose, there seem to five forces working, from the most subtle level (spiritual or energetically) to the gross which we can actually perceive with our five senses.

We cannot escape the fact that everything is made up of these Five energy-forces which have their source in the indescribable Absolute, of whatever cultural description.

This means we (you and I) too are shaped by these forces, spiritually, psychologically, mentally and physically .

Knowing one’s energetic make-up gives us a clue about our talents, our weaknesses, our problems… and illnesses.

Health, peace and balance come from these forces being in harmony.

To bring harmony, to balance opposites…whether in our body, our relationships, the environment or the world at large depends on our ability to understand these force and the laws according to which they move in the perpetual change we call life.

In this workshop, we will explore, play with and understand these forces and then look at ways to bring greater peace and balance into our bodies, lives, relationships – even problems and issues in the world at large.

Swami Nityamuktananda Saraswati (Dr. Christa-Maria Herrmann ( PhD; MA; MEd; DAD; Dip theol; Dip Ed; etc.), German by birth (1945), naturalised British, originally studied Theology; her university studies soon expanded to Education, Psychology, Philosophy and Art and Design (Ceramics). In fact she has never stopped studying and never stopped teaching. Be it in colleges and universities; in workshops and international conferences, in Yoga Institutes and ashrams; or even on Silent Retreats etc. At the centre of her studies and teachings always is the subject of ‘Self-awareness’.

Life in Asia (Australia and America) awakened her interest in Eastern Philosophy (Taoism and Zen) and led to the Zen-arts of Raku (as an artist potter she exhibited worldwide) and Shiatsu (one of several complementary medicines she studied and practiced).

As artist and philosopher merged more and more, a unique combination emerged of deep involvement in Meditation, Sattipahana (mindfulness) and Ngal So; as well as the contemplative practices of Jnana Yoga and Vedanta. Throughout, she worked with several great spiritual Masters among them Zen-Masters, great Siddhas, the Tibetan Lama and Tulku T.Y.S. Gangchen, the great Yogi Swami Maheshananda and H.H. Swami Anubhavananda (Acharya of Vedanta) and M.M. (Mahamadeleschwara) Swami Veda Bharati, disciple of Swami Rama of the Himalayas.

In 1997 she made her Doctorate in Eco-philosophy on the subjects of the Mahabhutas (Five Great Elements) and has since contributed world-wide in conferences and workshops. The wisdom of the of the Mahabhutas, the five Elements, is a universal concept shared by many, if not all wisdom-traditions around the globe; including but by no means only, Yoga Philosophy.

Swami Nityamuktananda continuously travels around the world, sharing wisdom and spiritual practices including meditation and “The Five Elements”. All this from Norway to New Zealand, from Germany to Mexico; from Japan to Ecuador; from Singapore and Australia to Ireland.

In 1997 she was awarded a ‘World-Peace Prize’ for contributions to World Peace (LGWPF/ NGO of UN).

She is the author of several books especially an encyclopedic book on the Five Elements; as well as a simpler version translated into Italian and soon to appear in German, Chinese and Hungarian.
