This workshop will challenge traditional research methodologies used in yoga research by incorporating creative approaches to address complex or unique research questions. This will be an interactive workshop where participants would have the opportunity to imagine ‘outside-the-box’ research methodologies and push the boundaries for knowledge creation designs on yoga and wellbeing. This workshop is underpinned by the principles of Participatory Action Research, encouraging collaboration between researchers and participants for co-creating knowledge and innovative ‘lived expertise’ practices for wellbeing.
This workshop will review established quantitative research designs and methods that can be applied for research on yoga and its impact. The strength of various research designs will be described including both descriptive studies and prospective intervention trials, both controlled and uncontrolled. Study designs to evaluate physiological and psychological outcomes in a variety of healthy populations and clinical and therapeutic outcomes for patient populations that have a variety of psychological and medical conditions, will both be discussed.
