Towards Meditation: Discovering Holistic Living

What is Dhyana (Meditation)?

Dhyana is one’s conscious journey towards holistic life and living, culminating into human completeness, referred to as Self Realization. This conscious journey is initiated through Comprehensive Awareness (Abhyasa) and Comprehensive Freedom (Vairagya), achieved through Pratyahara (‘positive withdrawal’ of senses from their objects), Samapatti (a complete, conscious merging with the object of meditation and Dharana (Yogic concentration).

What is Holistic Living?

Holistic living, as mentioned in Bhagwat Gita (VI: 17) and Charak Samhita (Su.IV:36), is indicative of mental health (self-adjustment), psycho-social health (social adjustment), psycho-physiological health (holistic life-style) and spiritual health (yogic lifestyle).

How to approach Holistic Living through Dhyana?

The Absolute Joy, gained through transcending attachment and antipathy, annihilates all miseries and making the Buddhi functionally stable in the process Bhagwat Gita (II: 64, 65). There are two conditions for achieving Holistic Living:
