General Internship (4 weeks, total 220hrs)   

The training will involve regular patients in our Yogic hospital where majority of clients come for a week. Intern will work 7 days a week for total internship time 225 hrs of which 168 hr will be face-to-face with clients, review total time of 28 hrs and the remaining time dedicated to self-study. The internship will start on Sunday and end on Sunday. We require interns arrive on Wednesday before starting internship for orientation program.

Objectives

  1. Create and effectively conduct yoga sessions for basic, advanced and therapy level groups.

  2. Understand yogic practices and, based on scientific basis, their suitable variations.

  3. Effectively apply different teaching skills in the group setting and in one-to-one session.

  4. Gain knowledge of the medical case – the history, examinations (clinical/pathological and radiological) and how to interpret it in yoga therapy context.

  5. Effectively design the yoga module according to specific disease and needs of the patient

  6. Understand disease prognosis in the context of yoga therapy

Content

Observation of yoga classes Basic/ Advanced and Therapy Intern will observe assigned patient’s performance and therapist’s techniques during yoga classes at Health Care Center noting the progress on observation sheets. Yoga therapist and medical officer will supervise the process.

Teaching group classes First 2 weeks intern will assist the teacher during yoga class. S/He then will progress to teaching the class under the supervision of senior yoga teacher.

Teaching personal class Intern will conduct personal yoga sessions for different medical cases under the supervision of therapist and medical officer.  Intern will create and maintain at least 8 case records. Every effort will be made to expose intern to as much variety of cases as possible and practical.

The group discussion of case records for the week according to the disease will be lead and supervised by senior yoga teacher and medical officer.

Extended Internship

Each additional month of internship can be attended after completing general 4 weeks. Intern can choose the following focus of interest:

  • Muscular-skeletal diseases
  • Metabolic disorders
  • Geriatric complications
  • Chronic digestive and respiratory diseases

Prerequisites

  1. Intern must have completed Yoga Therapy course in one of IAYT accredited yoga therapy training programs.
  2. Intern must be able to effectively demonstrate following skills: empathy, communication and conflict resolution, setting boundaries, redirection.
  3. Interns must have a regular practice of daily sadhana.

Application Process

  1. Students may apply for internship at any time for the duration of the 4 weeks by filling the application.
  2. Student must provide the proof of completing one of IAYT accredited yoga therapy training programs.
  3. Students will provide 3 relevant references, which will be available for contacting.
  4. After the references are checked and subject to availability students will be accepted to the internship program and their space confirmed after Kaivalyadhama Yoga Institute receives 50% of payment.

Specialized Internship (4 weeks, total 220hrs)

This internship differs from the basic in that the intern becomes a member of team, which conducts 3 weeks residential yogic therapeutic programs. This will allow students to track effectiveness of protocol and measure the healing of small group of patients over period of three weeks, which will result in meaningful case study for each patient.  Week one will be dedicated activities in hospital. The 4-week internship will start on Sunday and end on Sunday.

The training will involve working 6 days a week for total internship time 220 hrs of which 170 hr will be face-to-face with clients, review total time of 20 hrs and the remaining time dedicated to self-study. There is a choice of programs – Rejuvenation for Cancer Patients (www.kdham.com/cancer) or Chronic Cures (www.kdham.com.chroniccures). 

The Rejuvenation for Cancer Patients program offers opportunity to work with patients who underwent allopathic treatment for all types of cancer and who take the program at Kaivalyadhama to facilitate quick recovery.

The Chronic Cure program is offered to patients who suffer psychosomatic chronic diseases like depression, cardiovascular problems, diabetes, fibromyalgia, psoriasis etc. Intern will have opportunity to work with these cases as part of the team (and one on one – at the discretion of the team leader).

  1. Understand yogic practices and, based on scientific basis, their suitable variations for patients with different diseases.
  2. Effectively apply different teaching skills in the group setting and in one-to-one session – subject to intern’s skills demonstrated and discretion of program leader.
  3. Gain knowledge of the medical case – the history, examinations (clinical/pathological and radiological) and how to interpret it in yoga therapy context.
  4. Record case records of all patients over 3 weeks of program.
  5. Understand disease prognosis in the context of yoga therapy
  6. Become a member of the team effectively assisting as required in running the program. The responsibilities will be assigned at the discretion of the program leader depending on the intern’s demonstrated skills.

9:00-10:00 – Individual Yogic counselling

11:00-12:30 – Therapeutic Group Activity Yoga

12:30 – Lunch

3:00-4:30  – Pranayama and Silent Meditation

5:00-6:15 – Yoga Nidra

6:30 – Dinner

8:15-9:00 Yoga – Chanting and silent meditation

  3. Students will provide 3 relevant references, which will be available for contacting. At least one of the references has to be from faculty of the program.
  4. Student will be available for Skype interview.
  5. After the references are checked and subject to availability students will be accepted to the internship program. The space will be confirmed after Kaivalyadhama Yoga Institute receives 50% of payment.
  6. Those who choose Rejuvenation for Cancer Patients will have to read both provided and suggested materials before coming to Kaivalyadhama Yoga Institute.
