~ Śiva Saṁhitā (5.258)

(Contented in any situation, renouncing the inner attachment, thus even the householder who is dispassionate gets liberated through yoga practice)

The Śiva Saṁhitā is one of the most vital Hatha texts, offering a unique bridge between the non-dual philosophy of Advaita Vedanta and the practical mastery of Hatha Yoga.

This six-session workshop draws from all five chapters of Śiva Saṁhitā. You will move from the philosophical foundations of Jnana to meditation (Dhyana).

Śiva Saṁhitā spells a synthesis of Advaita Vedanta philosophy with the practical techniques of Hatha Yoga. The text aligns with Advaita Vedanta, asserting that individual consciousness and Shiva (Universal Consciousness) are one and the same and aims for liberation from all dualities with a direct relevance to the life and living of a common householder.

The term Śiva Saṁhitā refers to the systematic body of yogic wisdom imparted by Shiva. It also signifies a collection of teachings and practices that guide the seeker toward the state of Shiva the ultimate realisation of the Self. The text emphasises that one can attain knowledge of the bodiless Absolute, the Self, through the body itself.

The Śiva Saṁhitā states that a practitioner progressing toward liberation lives a disciplined yogic life while also attaining success in worldly duties, yet remains spiritually grounded in search of deeper peace and meaning. Though it does not classify yoga into specific limbs like other Hatha Yoga texts, it integrates Mantra, Hatha, Laya, and Raja Yoga, and elaborately describes ten important mudras such as Mahamudra and Mahavedha.
