What is Dhyana (Classical Meditation)?
“Dhyana (Yoga Meditation) is the very process of restoring our psychophysiological faculties towards Wellness, through achieving an ideal interaction of Citta (mind, intellect & ego) and Prana (bio-force, responsible for functional domain of our body), culminating into Holistic Health, creativity and intuitive powers.”
How does Classical Meditation help?
As per Patanjala Yoga Sutra (P.Y.S.), Yoga spells the freedom, from the slavery of functions of mind-intellect-ego complex, culminating into the state of Seer (PYS: II: 2, 3). This state, where awareness is maximum and tensions are minimal, paves way to Neutral State of Attention, which when brought forth consciously, leads to equanimity (Samatvam) which is forerunner to creativity (B.G. II: 48 & 50). There happen possibilities of emergence of intuitive powers that help us through life related challenges and successes. Neutral State of attention, gained through meditational practices, culminates into Abstract Awareness (Amoorta Bhava) and thus forms the very bed rock of meditational states. In meditational states Citta-Prana interaction becomes most ideal helping us to bring out our best and thus endowing us with Wellness and Holistic Health.
Yoga Meditation reaches deeper, unconscious recesses of mind so as to identify, stimulate and remove unconscious impressions and complexes of which we are slave most of times. As a result of meditation, one becomes sensitive to human relations, personal growth, organizational growth and work-a-day life problems. This affects our decision-making ability favorably, as biases, prejudices and many a complex are naturally mellowed down and removed.
Supine Dhyana as mentioned in Shiva Samhita (V: 70, 71) works in three levels
- Bringing inner maladies, embedded in interoceptive domain of consciousness to the manifest levels of mind & body
- Annihilating these maladies, completely or partly
- Endowing the practitioner with Prasada i.e. Absolute Joy, that prevents the maladies to recur
